About Diwali(उत्सव माहिती)
A uniquely Maharashtrian Diwali tradition is the construction of mud forts (Killa) by children. Honoring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's legendary Maratha fortresses, kids spend weeks gathering mud, stones, and mustard seeds to build miniature hill forts, complete with miniature Maratha soldier figurines and saffron flags.
Families gather before sunrise for Abhyanga Snan — a sacred ritual bath using warm water, fragrant oils, and herbal Utane scrub. Afterward, homes open their doors to relatives and neighbors to present the famed Diwali Faral platter, featuring homemade snacks like Chakli, Poha Chivda, Karanji, Anarse, Shankarpali, and Laddoos.
In Maratha military history, Diwali celebrated seasonal agricultural harvests and Maratha victory campaigns. Fortress walls across Rajgad, Raigad, and Shivneri were lit with oil torches, establishing the Maratha tradition of honoring Shivaji Maharaj's fortress heritage during Diwali.
