About Hanuman Jayanti(उत्सव माहिती)

Hanuman Jayanti (हनुमान जयंती / मारुती जन्मोत्सव) is celebrated with electrifying energy and spiritual fervor across Maharashtra on the full moon day of Chaitra (Chaitra Shukla Purnima). In Maharashtra, where Lord Hanuman is revered by the affectionate names Maruti (मारुती), Bajrangbali, and Anjaniputra, the celebrations commence well before daybreak, as Lord Hanuman's birth took place precisely at the moment of sunrise (Surya Udaya).

By 05:00 AM, traditional wrestling gyms (Talim / Akhada) and Maruti temples in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, and Vidarbha are abuzz. Devotees line up bearing offerings of bright orange Shendur (शेंदूर / Sindoor) mixed with pure sesame or mustard oil, garlanding the idol with garlands of purple-and-white crown flowers (रुईची फुले - Calotropis) and strings of betel leaves (विडा). At the exact moment the golden sunrise strikes the horizon (around 06:21 AM), temple bells clang vigorously, conch horns blare, and priests perform the grand Janmotsav Aarti, showering sanctified Gulal while thousands chant Samarth Ramdas Swami's rousing stotra: *'भीमरूपी महारुद्रा वज्रहनुमान मारुती | वनारी अंजनीसुता रामदूता प्रभंजना ||'*.

Across Maharashtra, Hanuman is not merely a deity of worship but the embodiment of physical strength (Bala), mental restraint (Brahmacharya), intellect (Buddhi), and selfless devotion (Seva). Wrestlers in rural Maharashtra touch the feet of the Maruti idol before entering the sacred red mud (*Matee*) pit, seeking his blessings for invincible endurance and clean character.

History: The history and sacred lore of Lord Hanuman are intimately rooted in Maharashtra's spiritual terrain:

1. The Divine Birth at Anjaneri: According to Valmiki Ramayana and local tradition, Lord Shiva manifested as the eleventh Rudra avatar through the womb of Mata Anjana, aided by Vayu Deva. In Maharashtra, Anjaneri Hill near Trimbakeshwar (Nashik) is venerated as the sacred birthplace of Lord Hanuman, where ancient rock shrines commemorate Anjana Mata's penance.

2. Samarth Ramdas Swami & The 11 Maruti Temples (अकरा मारुती): In the 17th century, Samarth Ramdas Swami established the famous circuit of Akra Maruti (11 prominent Maruti temples in Shahapur, Masur, Chaphal, Umbraj, Bahe, Shirala, etc.) to awaken courage, physical fitness, and martial readiness among Maharashtrian youth to fight for Swarajya under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

3. Patron Deity of Maharashtrian Akhadas: Royalty such as Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur institutionalized the worship of Maruti as the presiding guardian of every Akhada and wrestling Talim across Maharashtra, making his worship synonymous with athletic discipline and moral character.

Significance: The observance of Hanuman Jayanti carries profound physiological, protective, and mental blessings:
  • Sunrise Janmotsav Muhurat: Unlike deities born at midnight (Krishna) or noon (Rama), Maruti was born at dawn, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness, fear, mental inertia, and sluggishness.
  • Protection from Shani Dosha: Puranic lore recounts how Hanuman rescued Lord Shani from Ravana's confinement in Lanka. Grateful, Shani Dev pledged that those who worship Maruti with sesame/mustard oil and black sesame will be shielded from the ill-effects of Sade Sati and planetary distress.
  • Mental Courage & Vanquishing Fear: Chanting the Bhimrupi Maruti Stotra and Hanuman Chalisa strengthens the nervous system, instills confidence, and dissolves irrational anxieties and phobias.
