About Vat Purnima(उत्सव माहिती)
Vat Purnima is a significant traditional festival observed by married Marathi women in Maharashtra. Women fast and tie a ceremonial white thread around a Banyan (Vat) tree, praying for the longevity, health, and prosperity of their husbands. The banyan tree, representing stability and long life, is central to the prayers.
History: The festival is based on the legendary story of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata. Savitri, with her wit and deep devotion, pursued Yama, the Lord of Death, and successfully convinced him to return her husband Satyavan's life under a banyan tree.
Significance: It is a celebration of conjugal love and family well-being, observed with fasting, traditional dressing, and community prayers by married women.

Observing a fast (vrat) on the day of the full moon.
Dressing in traditional Maharashtrian sarees, jewellery, and green glass bangles.
Worshipping the Banyan tree by offering water, fruits, and flowers.
Winding a cotton thread seven times around the Banyan tree trunk while praying.
