Pitru Paksha 2026 | पितृ पक्ष

From the crack of dawn, households across Maharashtra prepare for Pitru Paksha with sacred enthusiasm. Entrances of homes are scrubbed clean, framed with vibrant torans of fresh marigolds and mango leaves, and adorned with elaborate Rangoli patterns created using bright natural powders. Women dress in traditional Maharashtrian attire, such as elegant Paithani or Nauvari sarees, while men wear traditional Kurta-Pyjamas or Dhotis.

The atmosphere during Pitru Paksha in Maharashtrian households is filled with divine warmth and fragrant incense. Families gather around the home altar for sacred Pujan, offering fresh flowers, sandalwood paste, lighted clay lamps (Diyas), and traditional sweet Naivedya. Beyond religious observance, Pitru Paksha is a time of heartfelt hospitality, where relatives and neighbors visit each other's homes to exchange blessings, share homemade culinary delicacies, and pass down ancient customs to the younger generation.
